Holidays among nature and tradition

You don't have to leave our holiday home to enjoy the impressive nature of the Centre of Portugal. From the terrace you have a splendid view over the magnificent valley. The immediate area is particularly well suited for long walks through the quiet hills and the picturesque villages. Don't be afraid to ask for suggestions! At 5 km of our holiday homes you will find the 60 km long Castelo do Bode lake, with its clean water (perfect for swimming!), impressive natural surroundings and many small river beaches. There are also possibilities for canoeing and fishing, for example carp or zander.

Being one of the place with most hours of sunshine in Europe, weather is almost always beautiful. The mild winter climate makes the houses therefore very suitable for both longer or shorter stays in the winter.

Surroundings

If you really want to know Portugal, but also want to enjoy a peaceful time in contact with nature, then this area is a perfect destination. Beco is a small village in the municipality of Ferreira do Zêzere, in the very centre of Portugal, where old traditions still live on: small village festivals, markets and fairs, religious processions ... Don't be surprised if you find yourself dancing or eating sardines at one of the many traditional festivals which enliven the smallest village during summer.

At 4 km distance you will find the slightly larger village Cabaços and at 11 km the town of Ferreira do Zêzere. In both localities a traditional market is realized every Monday morning. There you can buy local products, mostly direct from the farmer or manufacturer. You will also find banks, post offices, pharmacies, cyberspaces, supermarkets and shops.

The city of Tomar, also known as the Templars City, is nearby, at about 28 km southwards of Beco, and surely is worth a visit. The impressive Christ Convent and the small streets in the old centre guide you through a history which goes at least eight centuries back. Every Friday morning there's a colourful market. For more information, see the websites Tomar, City of the Templars and the official site of the Christ Convent, both in English.

As Ferreira do Zêzere is situated in the very centre of Portugal, places such as the ancient university city Coimbra (60 km), the capital Lisbon (130 km) and the Atlantic shore (80 km) are easily visited in a day.
